Hot on the footsteps of Baden H who is currently in the USA playing in the Babe Ruth series, Year 9 student Morrison V has been selected to play for the Aussie Drop Bears U16 team. The team of fourteen will be heading off to Florida later this month to play in the Perfect Game International Series.
Having started playing baseball at the tender age of three years of age, Morrison plays right field, outfield, batting and pitch and trains every day. “I love playing all team sports, but baseball is my favourite,” says Morrison. “My dream is to get a scholarship in the USA after my HSC, but even if that doesn’t happen I will continue to play sports after I finish school.”
Morrison and his team, the Macquarie Saints, have played all over Australia and have a very successful reputation in the sport bringing home a win in most of their games.
The love of baseball runs in the family; Morrison’s father plays and coaches regularly and younger brother, Patton in Year 8 at Marist College Eastwood, was part of the Ryde All Stars team that were runners up in the Australian U13 National Championships held earlier this year.
Baseball is just one of the many team sports offered at Marist College Eastwood. Principal, Silvana Rossetti says “We like to offer our boys a very wide variety of sports at the College. Our facilities onsite are very good with both indoor and outdoor spaces for the boys to enjoy, but we are also very lucky to have many public parks and sporting ovals all within a short walking distance from the College.”
