Every young athlete dreams of representing their country on the international stage and for Marist College Eastwood’s own Georgio Hassarati, that dream has just become a reality.

Georgio’s love for football began at the age of eight when he joined the Putney Rangers. “I love soccer, always have. It’s fun and I love being part of a team,” he says. His talent didn’t go unnoticed; at 14, he was spotted by a scout for the Western Sydney Wanderers and signed on contract. Just two years later, his remarkable progress has earned him another milestone: selection by Head Coach Brad Maloney for Australia’s U16 National Team (known as the Subway Joeys) to compete in the upcoming U16 AFC Invitational Tournament in Hohhot, China.

“I’m really happy and can’t wait to go,” says Georgio, who dedicates himself to three training sessions a week. His passion for the sport runs in the family, with three younger brothers, who also play football, keen to follow in his footsteps.

Marist College Eastwood Principal, Ms. Silvana Rossetti, says: “I am so happy for Georgio. He is a great ambassador for sport and represents the College in multiple disciplines, including football and touch football. I have no doubt we will hear much more about him in the world of football in the years to come.”

And as for Georgio’s ultimate dream? “I would love to be a professional footballer, represent Australia, and eventually play in the English Premier League.”
