It’s not many Year 9 students who can say they have a tennis ranking, but that’s exactly what Year 9 student Krishav has.
Young Krishav has recently been selected for the high-performance tennis squad at Sydney Olympic Park. In addition to this, in the first Junior National Ranking Tournament he won four matches to qualify for the finals in the U/14 main draw and contributed another 93 points to his ranking. During this run to the finals he also defeated the top seed in the quarter finals.
Krishav has been playing tennis since the age of six and it would seem that some of his talent may just have been partly genetic. Krishav’s father ranked second nationally in Badminton in India and is currently ranked 250 in the International Tennis Federation level.
Krishav trains four times per week before and after school with sessions lasting as long as two hours. “I enjoy playing tennis. It’s fun. I enjoy the competitiveness of the tournaments and meeting lots of people. I believe tennis has also taught me to be a better, more disciplined person and I know that even when I don’t play as well as I expect to, then I just need to work harder and try again.”
College Principal, Ms Silvana Rossetti says “Krishav is a very keen participant in sports offered here at Marist College Eastwood and has represented the school in tennis for the last two years.” Ms Rossetti continues “He is also a very good student who sets his expectations high and is very happy to work hard to achieve.”
Krishav is considering a career in Engineering at the completion of his education but is also wanting to see how far his career in tennis can go. Next step – the Inter District Competition where he has applied for the 2024 team. Krishan made the team in 2022 and 2023 and his team won back to back titles. And…. more tournaments of course to continue contributing to his ranking.
