Year 12 Physics class travelled to Luna Park to investigate the advanced mechanics involved in each of the thrilling, and in some cases nauseating, rides. Our budding scientists enthusiastically powered through each ride, consulting Mr Mulhearn and Mr Webber’s vast bank of knowledge on circular motion, pendulums, and mechanical situations involving gravity and quite importantly, their dodgem car expertise.  Working in groups analysing the forces and collecting data allowed them to apply their content knowledge to real world examples and situations.

Beyond the physics, Mr Mulhearn’s heroism to join the students on each of the rides, notably the ‘Sledgehammer,’ ‘Hair Raiser,’ and ‘Big Dipper’ was outstanding, whilst Mr Webber provided moral support from a safe distance.  A fun and knowledgeable day was had by all!
